Liz Warren said what she said because she can’t acknowledge that insurance operates within the framework of the ACA.

Democrats will never be able to have a fair discussion on insurance reform because it requires admitting that the ACA fails in its basic functions.

Agreed — ultimately, the ACA was a remarkably conservative policy far outside the Democratic ethos, but it was such a big win, that you're not going to get anyone criticizing it now.

We have so many ways to treat illness and aging today. The investment in MRI machines and those who can read the imagery is just one example of why costs are so high.

We expect more and we pay more. That is the true price of the high standard of living we enjoy.

Yeah, I think that is one of the more understated points of the whole healthcare debate. Especially in the US, we have so much access to so many experimental and "luxury" treatments that it affects the overall healthcare ecosystem.

The comparison to the French Revolution has been on my mind too. Also 100 years of solitude. I think you are correct that this pattern can only lead to chaos and violence. But I’m not sure I agree with you about trusting the system either. The system would not naturally right itself AND tearing it down won’t work either. Also I have no answers other than getting out of the way of it all. Do you have further solutions beyond trusting institutions?

The French Revolution and 100 Years of solitude are my two favorite examples in this department.

I think you’re pushing back on a good point here, though, and I could probably bear to think about this a little more. I’m not sure I’d go as far as saying as we need to trust the system 100% of the time — there are some systems that need to be challenged and dismantled (the insurance system being one of them), although I haven’t really thought of any litmus tests to determine how and when we should do that. What are your thoughts?

I am incredibly unqualified to come up with a solution. The obvious answer for the uncreative is to look at nonviolent protest movements of the 20th century… but I really don’t have faith in these crowds to keep their cool. Crop dust the kids with oxytocin before a protest and hope for the best? IDK Kathleen, I kind think maybe we all have lead poisoning. I’ll sleep on it and maybe wake up optimistic and inspired with something completely new and perfect 🤣
